  • Sigma Iota Rho

  • Sigma Iota Rho is the national honor society for students of international affairs, founded in 1989 by faculty and scholars affiliated with the International Studies Association.  Our Alpha Chi chapter at the Maxwell School of Syracuse University was established in 1995 by Ambassador and Professor-of-Practice Goodwin Cooke, who served as Director of Undergraduate Studies in International Relations from 1991 to 2004. 

    Election to undergraduate membership in our local chapter requires, inter alia:  junior standing with the university; completion of at least 7 courses in the International Relations major, including all required introductory courses; completion of intermediate language study or demonstrated proficiency in same; and a cumulative grade point average of 3.400 or higher in all courses and a grade point average of at least 3.500 in courses in International Relations.  Students must also demonstrate a commitment to academic integrity.
