  challenges\, with\nNorth Korea near the top of the list. Despite media pr
 onouncements to the\ncontrary\, rather than a hardline stance towards Pyon
 gyang\, President Trump may\nbe searching for a way forward other than imm
 ediately escalating\nsanctions--including against China—or seriously consi
 dering military action\nagainst the North. The presentation will explore t
 his possibility as well as\nhow events in South Korea\, China and North Ko
 rea might fit into this effort.\n\n\n\nJoel S.\nWit is concurrently a Seni
 or Fellow at the US-Korea Institute at SAIS and a\nSenior Research Fellow 
 at Columbia University Weatherhead\nInstitute for East Asian Studies.\n\n\
 n\nHe has\nserved as Senior Advisor to Ambassador Robert L. Galluci from\n
 1993-1995\, where he developed strategies to help resolve the crisis over 
 North\nKorea’s weapons program\, and as Coordinator for the US-North Korea
  Agreed\nFramework from 1995-1999\, where he was the official in charge of
 \nimplementation. He was also a key participant in the establishment of th
 e\nKorean Peninsula Energy Development Organization (KEDO).\n\n\n\nWit has
 \npublished numerous articles on Northeast Asian security issues. He has a
 lso\nwritten numerous articles on North Korea and nonproliferation and is 
 the\ncoauthor of the book&nbsp\;Going\nCritical: The First North Korean Nu
 clear Crisis&nbsp\;(Brookings\nInstitution Press\, 2004). He received his 
 M.I.A. from Columbia University in\n1979 and his B.A. from Bucknell\nUnive
