 erformer:\nJames Gordon WilliamsJames Gordon Williams is a pianist\, compo
 ser\, improviser and\ncritical musicologist who collaborates with poets\, 
 dancers and experimental\nfilmmakers. His book&nbsp\;Crossing Bar Lines: T
 he Politics and Practices of\nBlack Musical Space&nbsp\;will be published 
 in March 2021 by University\nPress of&nbsp\;Mississippi. The&nbsp\;Los Ang
 eles native has performed at the\nvenerated Village Vanguard\, Birdland\, 
 as well as several jazz festivals in the\nUnited States\, Malta\, Switzerl
 and\, France\, and Italy. Williams is a 6th year\nassistant professor of m
 usic in the Department of African American\nStudies&nbsp\;at Syracuse Univ
 ersity. &nbsp\;He earned his Ph.D. from UC San\nDiego\, Masters of Arts de
 gree from New York University\, and Bachelors from New\nEngland Conservato
