DESCRIPTION:The Maxwell African Scholars Union Graduate Student Summer Rese
 arch GrantsThis year the Maxwell African Scholars Union (MASU) will grant 
 awards to graduate students of up to $2\,500 to support field research in 
 sub-Saharan Africa during the summer of 2016. The purpose of the award is 
 to provide students the opportunity to develop field experience\, whether 
 to gather preliminary data\, make contacts\, map topics\, or increase the 
 competitiveness of future proposals for funding.&nbsp\; Any graduate stude
 nt enrolled in a M or PhD program at Syracuse University may apply.The awa
 rds are competitive and proposals are judged on the basis of (i) the quali
 ty of the proposed project or research\, (ii) the organization and thought
 fulness of the proposal\, and (iii) the appropriateness and feasibility of
  the research or project plan in relation to the student's background and 
 qualifications.You may apply for more than one summer grant from the Moyni
 han Institute\, but you will not receive more than one in a given year fro
 m the Institute.&nbsp\; Awards are ranked separately\, so if your proposal
  is accepted by more than one committee\, you will be awarded the better o
