 al education opportunities\, and enhance the state’s resilience to\nextrem
 e weather and other climate impacts.When O’Mara was appointed in 2009\, he
  was the youngest state\ncabinet official in the nation. He spearheaded a 
 range of initiatives\,\nincluding Delaware’s "No Child Left Inside"/ Child
 ren In Nature\ncampaign\, a comprehensive strategy to confront childhood o
 besity by\nreintroducing children to the outdoors\; the First State Trails
  and Pathways\nPlan\, a multi-year initiative to expand and connect the st
 ate’s trail system\;\nand the Delaware Bayshore Initiative\, an effort to 
 establish the region as a\nworld-class conservation and low-impact recreat
 ion tourism destination for\nhunting\, birding\, fishing\, hiking\, canoei
 ng\, and kayaking\, as part of the\nPresident’s America’s Great Outdoors I
 nitiative.\n\nIn addition\, Secretary O’Mara led the largest investment in
 \nenvironmental infrastructure in Delaware’s history\, including more than
  $200\nmillion in wastewater and storm water systems\, beach restoration\,
  dam and dike\nrepair\, drainage projects\, and park and wildlife area. At
  the same time\, he\nsuccessfully executed the first significant reorganiz
 ation of the state’s\nDepartment of Natural Resources and Environmental Co
 ntrol since 1972\, to make\nthe agency more effective at implementing stra
 tegic priorities and more\nefficient in carrying out its mission at a time
  of limited resources.\n\nO’Mara has served on numerous boards including a
 s Co-Chair of\nthe Natural Resources and Agriculture Subcommittee of the P
 resident’s Task\nForce on Climate Adaptation and Preparedness\, past Chair
  of the Regional\nGreenhouse Gas Initiative\, past Chair of the Ozone Tran

 r the City of Syracuse\, New York\, where he oversaw the\nCity’s performan
 ce management and accountability program.\n\nA native of Syracuse\, New Yo
 rk\, O’Mara was a Marshall Scholar at\nthe University of Oxford\, a Univer
 sity Fellow at the Maxwell School of\nCitizenship and Public Affairs\, and
  a Presidential Scholar at Dartmouth\nCollege. He is a Catto Fellow at the
