  the Department of\nGeography and the Environment at Syracuse University. 
 His research explores\nurban development in Kabul\, Afghanistan to better 
 understand state-society\nrelations in the country’s capital.\n\nAkbar Qur
 aishi ’09 BA (IR)/’11\nMAIR is a First Secretary at the Embassy of Afghani
 stan\, covering political and\nsecurity issues. He joined the Afghan gover
 nment in 2002 following the collapse\nof the Taliban. \n\nFarishta Sakhi a
  PhD candidate at Carter School of\nConflict Resolution at George Mason Un
 iversity. Before joining GMU\, Sakhi’s worked\nfor the Ministry of Foreign
  Affairs of Republic of Afghanistan serving as a\nsenior diplomat and a me
 mber of the leadership team of the ministry. \n\nThe discussion will be mo
 derated by Amy Friers ’11 BA\n(PSc)/’17 MAIR. She lived and worked in Afgh
 anistan for five years during which\nshe was part of the team that created
  the University of Afghanistan\, where she\nserved as Vice-Chancellor and 
 professor.&nbsp\;\nShe currently works with Team Afghan Power\, a charity 
 focused on using\nrenewable energy to improve educational outcomes in rura
