 February 5th: Christine Mahoney (Assistant Professor of Political Science)
  will present "Building Civil Society from the Ground Up: Collective Actio
 n among the Forcibly Displaced\," a draft article co-authored with Anirban
  Acharya (PhD candidate in Political Science). Lindsey Kingston (Social Sc
 ience PhD candidate) will serve as discussant. The paper will be posted on
  Blackboard by Monday.* The session starts at noon in 100 Eggers\, with lu
 nch provided thanks to the Moynihan Institute. Those directly or indirectl
 y researching refugee issues are welcome to stay after the formal session 
 to discuss setting up a working group. Presentations in the GPS series fea
 ture work in progress. Topics can cover anything within the scope of "glob
 al politics" broadly defined. The goal is to provide a forum for construct
 ive critique at a critical stage of revision\, such as the transition from
  a conference paper to an article manuscript ready for submission. The nex
 t session on April 30th will feature the Moynihan Institute’s Project on F
 orecasting. * GPS papers are available on a secure Blackboard Organization
  site. Becoming a "member" is a simple process that provides ready access 
 to current and previous presentations in the series: Go to blackboard.syr.
 edu\, the main Blackboard site. On the left\, click the "Organizations" ta
 b and scroll to the bottom for the Self-Enrollment Guide. If you are alrea
 dy a regular Blackboard user\, skip that step and log-in. Click on the "Co

  organizations list. Click "enroll" and enter "navigate" for the password.
