DESCRIPTION:Electing the Italian President of the Republic has never been a
 n easy operation over the history of the Italian Republic. The success of
 the procedure is usually based on the ability of the leaders of the most r
 elevant parties to find the best compromise among them and to persuade the
 ir MPs to follow the party discipline. The 2022 election presented all the
  conditions to complicate further the operations – a combination of an unc
 ertain socio-economic situation\, barely ungovernable MPs\, weak party lea
 ders\, and a very strong Premier (Mario Draghi).The talk will introduce th
 e role of the President of the Italian Republic and its importance for the
  political stability of the country. Then\, I will present the Elections o
 f 2022\, the objectives of the most important actors involved\, and their
 strategies. Finally\, I will analyze the outcome of the election and possi
 ble consequences for the Italian political landscape.Moreno Mancosu is an
 Assistant Professor at the Department of Culture\, Politics and Society—Un
 iversity of Turin (Italy) and Affiliate at the Collegio Carlo Alberto. His
  main research interests include political communication\, electoral behav
 ior\, and quantitative methods.&nbsp\;
