 nguage and Area Studies Fellowship (FLAS) Program\, funded by the U.S. Dep
 artment of Education under Title VI\, assists students in pursuing trainin
 g in order to acquire a high level of competence in one or more languages 
 critical to national needs of the United States\, and a fuller understandi
 ng of the areas\, regions\, or countries&nbsp\;in which that language is c
 ommonly used.&nbsp\;The Moynihan Institute of Global Affairs at Syracuse U
 niversity's Maxwell School houses the South Asia Center through which thes
 e fellowships are administered.&nbsp\;Eligibility is restricted&nbsp\;to u
 ndergraduates and graduates who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents&n
 bsp\;AND who are enrolled full-time in a program of study at Syracuse Univ
 ersity that includes intensive foreign language and area studies coursewor
 k or dissertation work that is&nbsp\;enhanced by foreign language training
 .&nbsp\; Undergraduate applicants must have completed at least a year of c
 ollege-level coursework in the language of study so that they are eligible
  to enroll at the intermediate level or above.&nbsp\;Summer 2014 Fellowshi
 ps – Deadline:&nbsp\; Monday\, February 16\, 2015The South Asia Center req
 uests applications from qualified undergraduates and graduate students for
  FLAS Summer fellowships.&nbsp\; The South Asia Summer 2015 FLAS program p
 rovides for tuition up to $5\,000 and a stipend of $2\,500 for intensive (
 6 or 8 weeks) study in the United States or abroad at the intermediate or 
 advanced level in any South Asian language at approved South Asian languag
 e programs.&nbsp\; In addition to applying for FLAS\, students must also a
 pply for the summer language program of their choice: usually these are th
 e American Institute of Indian Studies (AIIS) Summer Language Program (htt
 p://www.indiastudies.org/) for study in India or The South Asian Studies L
 anguage Institute (SASLI)\, held at the University of Wisconsin (http://sa
