 2016-17 The Foreign Language and Area Studies Fellowship (FLAS)\nProgram\,

 ents in pursuing training in order to acquire a high level of competence i
 n\none or more languages critical to national needs of the United States\,
  and a\nfuller understanding of the areas\, regions\, or countries in whic
 h that language\nis commonly used.&nbsp\; The Moynihan Institute\nof Globa
 l Affairs at Syracuse University's Maxwell School houses the South Asia\nC
 enter through which these fellowships are administered. &nbsp\;Eligibility
  is restricted to undergraduates and\ngraduates who are U.S. citizens or p
 ermanent residents AND who are enrolled\nfull-time in a program of study a
 t Syracuse University that includes intensive\nforeign language and area s
 tudies coursework or dissertation work that is\nenhanced by foreign langua
 ge training.&nbsp\;\nUndergraduate applicants must have completed at least
  a year of\ncollege-level coursework in the language of study so that they
  are eligible to\nenroll at the intermediate level or aboveThe South Asia 
 Center requests applications from qualified\nundergraduate and graduate st
 udents who wish to enhance their knowledge of a\nSouth Asian language to c
 omplement their current program of study. &nbsp\;Academic year FLAS fellow
 ships at Syracuse\nUniversity are awarded for Hindi-Urdu. Academic year 20
 16-17 fellowships\nconsist of a scholarship of $10\,000 towards the cost o
 f tuition and $5\,000\ntowards living expenses for undergraduates\; gradua
 te students receive 24\ncredits of tuition and a stipend of $15\,000.&nbsp
