 ll Ganz Harvard University “People\, Power\, and Change: Leadership\, Orga
 nizing\, and Democratic Renewal” Marshall Ganz is Senior Lecturer in Publi
 c Policy at the Hauser Center for Nonprofit Organizations at Harvard Unive
 rsity. In 1964\, a year before graduating from Harvard College\, he left t
 o volunteer as a civil rights organizer in Mississippi. He found a “callin
 g” as an organizer for the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee\, and
 \, in the fall of 1965\, joined Cesar Chavez in his effort to unionize Cal
 ifornia farm workers. During 16 years with the United Farm Workers he gain
 ed experience in union\, political\, and community organizing\, became Dir
 ector of Organizing\, and was elected to the national executive board on w
 hich he served for 8 years. In 1991\, in order to deepen his intellectual 
 understanding of his work\, he returned to Harvard College and\, after a 2
 8-year "leave of absence\," completed his undergraduate degree in history 
 and government. He was awarded an MPA by the Kennedy School in 1993 and co
 mpleted his PhD in sociology in 2000. Mr. Ganz is one of America’s foremos
 t social movement scholars. As senior lecturer in public policy at the Ken
 nedy School of Government\, he teaches\, researches\, and writes on leader
 ship\, organization\, and strategy in social movements\, civic association
 s\, and politics. He served as adviser to the 2008 Obama campaign on citiz
 en mobilization approaches. Lunch will be served
