 Sustainability and Somalia Yusuf Abdul-Qadir will present on a new approac
 h to international development and conflict resolution in the Horn of Afri
 ca that attempts to infuse the relationship between Islam and Somali cultu
 re\, dealing with humanitarian crises\, sustainable development\, and even
  national security concerns\, as practical solutions to the ongoing proble
 ms with which the state is faced. Yusuf Abdul-Qadir is an alumnus of Syrac
 use University's Political Science and Middle Easter Studies Departments. 
 While at Maxwell\, he focused on Muslim integration in the West\, Muslim C
 ultures\, Islamic Political Theory\, issues around counterterrorism and US
  national security concerns\, and East African Politics. He was a lecturer
  for the New York African Studies Association's 2009 Conference\, a partic
 ipant in the Maxwell School's EU Horn of Africa anti-piracy simulation\, a
 nd a 2011 Delegate for the Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC). Abdul-Qad
 ir has begun to establish himself as an aspiring scholar in the field of S
 omali studies with particular focus on engagement as a means to deal with 
 the various issues facing Somalia. Most recently\, Abdul-Qadir has become 
 interested in sustainability and public engagement as a form of conflict r
 esolution.
