Exploring the different manifestations of global apartheid\,\nBesteman traces how mi litarization and securitization reconfigure older forms\nof white supremac y and deploy them in new contexts to maintain this racialized\nglobal orde r. \n\nDr. Besteman has taught\nanthropology and African studies at Colby College since 1994. Her research\nfocuses on racism\, immigration and mobi lity\, inequality\, and social\ntransformation—topics she has studied in S outh Africa\, Somalia\, and the United\nStates. She recently received fell owships from the Rockefeller Foundation\, the\nJohn Simon Guggenheim Found ation\, and the American Council of Learned Societies\nfor her research on Somali refugees in the United States.
