DESCRIPTION:Only a small proportion of refugees manage to come to the Globa
l North. The main refugee flows take place within and between Africa\, Asi
a\, Latin America\, and the Middle East. The dominant discourses privilege
a Northern agenda and limit our understanding of the governance of displa
cement. A focus on South–South displacement is needed not only for a more
inclusive but also a more accurate analysis of global refugee movements. A
lthough the Refugee Convention provides a framework for understanding the
policies of signatory states\, we lack a framework for understanding the p
olicies of the countries outside the Global North. This panel thus aims to
explore the influence of the Refugee Convention and other legal instrumen
ts as well as a wide range of social and political factors on the refugee
management in the Global South. It will present perspectives from practiti
