  the 2020\nSABA Book Award for her book The Bridge Home ((Nancy Paulsen Bo
 oks\, 2019). In\nthis book\, runaway sisters Viji and Rukku learn the hars
 h realities of life on\nthe swarming streets of Chennai\, India. They find
  shelter and friendship with\nMuthi and Arul\, two homeless boys living un
 der an abandoned bridge. Forming a\nfamily\, the four use their instincts 
 and tenacity to survive in a perilous\,\nindifferent world.Padma Venkatram
 an is the award-winning author of several\nhighly acclaimed novels. Her bo
 oks have been featured on numerous best book\nlists and received a total o
 f 20 starred reviews.&nbsp\;&nbsp\;Born in India\, Padma survived a diffic
 ult childhood. When\nshe left India at the age of nineteen\, she decided t
 o pursue her love of\nscience and mathematics rather than her love of lite
 rature. She immigrated to\nAmerica on her own and studied oceanography and
  environmental engineering at\nthe College of William and Mary and Johns H
 opkins University. Before becoming a\nfull-time author\, Padma explored ra
 inforests and coral reefs\, directed a school\nin England\, taught at a un
 iversity\, served as chief scientist on ships where\nshe was the only fema
 le and only person of color\, and worked in Germany\, where\nshe learned t
 o speak German fluently. As a first-generation immigrant and a\nwoman of c
 olor who has an invisible disability\, she has been dedicated\, for\nover
