 d by illicit activities.&nbsp\; The Moynihan Institute’s Mapping Global\nI
 nsecurity Project has completed in-depth case studies of 80 such geographi
 c\nlocations found across the globe\, generating an initial map of the wor
 ld as\nviewed through the eyes of those engaged in transnational criminal 
 activities. &nbsp\;This presentation focuses on describing what\nwe have l
 earned to date regarding geopolitics and transnational crime and the\nflow
 s of illegal commodities.&nbsp\; Our\nresearch suggests that those engaged
  in transnational crime take advantage of\nthe tensions between state sove
 reignty and globalization\, weak state authority\,\ndifferent interpretati
 ons of what is illegal\, places where corruption is\nendemic\, locations w
 here there are multiple ways to exit the space and\nredundancies in the nu
 mber and type of illegal commodities available\, free\ntrade zones\, and R
