 are contributing to it? Where might there be possibilities\nfor renewal?&n
 bsp\;&nbsp\;This talk will explore these questions. It will place\nthe cur
 rent state of Indian Democracy in historical and comparative context.\n\n&
 nbsp\;Pratap Bhanu Mehta\n\nDr. Pratap Bhanu\nMehta is one of India's lead
 ing public intellectuals. He has held several\nteaching positions\, includ
 ing at Ashoka University\, where he was also the Vice\nChancellor from 201
 7-2019\, NYU School of Law\, and at Harvard University\, where\nhe taught 
 for many years.&nbsp\; Mehta has\npublished widely in the fields of politi
 cal theory\, intellectual history\,\nconstitutional law\, politics and soc
 iety in India and international politics.&nbsp\;Dr. Mehta has\nserved on m
 any central government committees\, including India’s National\nSecurity A
 dvisory Board\, the Prime Minister of India’s National Knowledge\nCommissi
 on\, and a Supreme Court-appointed committee on elections in Indian\nunive
 rsities. Mehta is a prolific writer\; he is an editorial consultant to The
 \nIndian Express\, and his columns have appeared in dailies including the 
 Financial\nTimes\, The Telegraph\, the International Herald Tribune\, and 
 The\nHindu.&nbsp\; His scholarly articles have\nappeared in leading intern
 ational referred journals in the field\, as well as\nnumerous edited volum
 es.\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nDr. Mehta\nholds a BA in Philosophy\, Politics\, and Eco
