e of International Relations (MGIMO)\n\n\nThe\nKorean Peninsula Between Wa
 r and Peace: A Russian Perspective\n\nLast\nyear was a period of extreme m
ilitary tension on the Korean Peninsula. To\nillustrate the dramatic natur
e of the situation\, suffice it to say that my\nNorth Korean interlocutors
were convinced that the Pentagon had launched the\ncontact reconnaissance
phase of a military operation it was planning to\nundertake on the penins
ula. They even were saying things such as “Our soldiers\nhave long been sl
eeping without removing their boots.” In response to the talk\nin Washingt

the Americans hit us on the nose\, we’ll crush their spinal\ncolumn."&nbsp
\; During the Olympic peace\npause\,&nbsp\; however\, the situation sudden
ly\nwas transformed in a magical way and now we are anticipating not one\,
but two\nsummits\, back-to-back\, one between North and South Korea and a
nother between\nthe U.S. and North Korea. There’s definitely a lot to disc
uss and to analyze if\nwe are to make sense of these dramatic developments
