DESCRIPTION:Fernando Riosmena (University of Texas at San Antonio) will pre
sent&nbsp\;“Cumulative Disadvantage and the Aging of Mexican Immigrants in
the&nbsp\;United States” as part of the CPR Seminar Series. This event is
co-sponsored by the Sociology Department.&nbsp\;Abstract: This talk exami
nes the association between life course disadvantage and disability trajec
tories in mobility/self-care and independent-living among older Mexican im
migrants in the United States. Using the Health and Retirement Study\, we
also pay particular attention to the role of likely undocumented status. F
indings suggest that individuals with a higher level of childhood disadvan
tages experience accelerated disability-related aging\, especially immigra
 nts who are likely undocumented.
