DESCRIPTION:The Coalition of Multicultural Public Administration Students (
COMPAS)\, The Middle Eastern Studies Program\, and Maxwell Executive Educa
tion invite you to join us for a panel discussion on the misunderstanding
of current events in the Middle East created by biased media coverage.\n&n
bsp\;\nWhether it's the reasons behind the "Arab rage" which resounded acr
oss the region in response to a video mocking the prophet Mohammad or Iran
's intentions for developing nuclear weapons\, the media often puts a spin
on stories coming out of the Middle East. These stories frequently lead t
o negative stereotypes which perpetuate American misconceptions of the reg
ion as a whole. The purpose of this panel is to reexamine these current ev
ents from an unbiased perspective\, to delve into the reasons behind media
bias\, and to address common misconceptions.\nThe panel will be led by hi
ghly regarded journalist and public speaker Rami Khouri who will be joined
by Dr. Mehrzad Boroujerdi of the Middle Eastern Studies program and Maste
r of Arts in International Relations candidate\, Sari Dallal.
