Health Requirements and Insurance

Admissions4The Health Services staff is here to help you stay well while you pursue your graduate study. Health Services provides primary care with an emphasis on wellness and health promotion.

The Health Services fee is mandatory for all graduate students registered for nine or more credits during the semester. The Health Services fee for the 2014-2015 academic year is $347 per semester.  (If you are a graduate student with a University graduate fellowship, a full-time graduate assistantship, or a graduate associateship, this fee is included as part of your award package.) Payment of the fee entitles students to unlimited office visits at the Health Center, Syracuse University Ambulance and medical transportation services, health education services, nutrition services, and services provided by the Counseling Center and by the Advocacy Center. Laboratory and pharmacy services are charged separately.

New York State law requires that students born on or after January 1, 1957, submit proof of immunization and other medical records. In accordance with the national Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA), the University will offer a new student health insurance plan as of August 1. Along with the new plan, the University will require all incoming, newly-matriculated full-time undergraduate, graduate, and law students, all full-time matriculated undergraduate and graduate international students, and all graduate student Fellows, new and continuing, will be required to have current health care coverage that meets ACA requirements and provides coverage for services received in the Syracuse area.  The student health insurance requirement will be in effect for all full-time matriculated students for the 2016-17 academic year.  General information about the University’s student health insurance policy can be found on the Health Services website, including a Frequently Asked Questions page.

Graduate assistants, and graduate associates are eligible to participate in the University’s Group Health Care Plan.
