Source: 1998 police expenses provided by municipalities in a survey distributed by the Community Benchmarks Program in January 1999. Incident data for June 1999 came from the Onondaga County Criminal History Arrest Reporting System

Comment: To calculate the cost per incident the following formula was used: Total police expenditures for the fiscal year 1998/12 months. The average monthly expenditures/total incidents for June 1999. Researchers recognize that this is not an exact replication of cost since monthly expenses vary and the incident data is based on a different year than the expenditures.
