Sawyer Law And Politics Program
Thomas M. Keck, Director and Michael O. Sawyer Chair of Constitutional Law and Politics
The Sawyer Law And Politics Program (SLAPP) supports research and teaching on law and politics, broadly defined. The program is funded by an endowment created by former students of Michael O. Sawyer, a legendary teacher of constitutional law at the Maxwell
School for 42 years.
SLAPP hosts regular research seminar in which scholars from multiple disciplines present their research on law and politics. In recent years, speakers have included Ellen Ann Andersen, Paul Frymer, Mark Graber, Lisa
Hilbink, Michael McCann, Kevin McMahon, and Helena Silverstein.
SLAPP funds one graduate student annually through the Michael O. Sawyer Graduate Assistantship in Law and Politics. This research assistantship is awarded each year to a doctoral
student in political science, and incoming/prospective students are welcome to apply. Any such students who are interested should contact Professor Keck for further details.
