Anna Lukemeyer

Indianapolis - Anna Lukemeyer, age 66, of Indianapolis, passed away from colon cancer on Wednesday, December 5 at I.U. Health Bloomington Hospice House. Born August 1, 1952 in Indianapolis, she was the daughter of George Throop Lukemeyer, M.D. and Barbara (Hayes) Lukemeyer.

Anna was a lifelong learner, receiving her bachelor degree from Indiana University Bloomington, law degree (J.D. and LL.M.) from Southern Methodist University, and finally her Ph.D. From the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University. She taught 16 years at the University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV) as both an Assistant and Associate Professor in the School of Public and Environmental Affairs. Her research interests included education finance reform, law, and policy along with public law and social policy. Her academic career included the publication of several books, countless journal articles and book chapters, 3 government reports/policy briefs and 23 conference papers. Upon retirement as an Emeritus Associate Professor from UNLV she moved back to Indianapolis to assist in caring for her aging parents.

Anna possessed a warm and caring heart especially for animals, giving her time, talent and treasure to various organizations including the Nature Conservancy, ASPCA, and the Humane Society of the United States. She enjoyed traveling and going on countless travel adventures with her sisters-in-law, Vickie Shank and Joy Drass.

Anna is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, George T. "Deuce" Lukemeyer II and Shelley M. Lukemeyer, of Bloomington, her niece, Hannah Lukemeyer and three nephews, George T. "Trip" Lukemeyer III, Jacques Poirier and Jon-Luc Poirier.

Anna was preceded in death by her husband, Kriss Drass and by her father and mother.

There will be no services or visitation at this time. There will be a Celebration of Life planned for spring, 2019. Her body will be cremated with a private family burial of her remains in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania. The family requests memorial gifts be made to the IU Simon Cancer Center for colon cancer research. Please make checks payable to: IU Foundation and mail to IUF, P.O.
