Steele (PAIA) visited Bogota, Colombia in
December to check
in on an ongoing project that studies the impact of a state-building effort by
the Colombian government and the United States Agency for International
Development (USAID). Abbey’s time in Bogotá consisted mostly of meetings with
one of her co-PIs and the USAID contractor implementing the second wave of a
20,000 household panel survey that Abbey and her team helped design.
Additionally, she met with the contractor that manages quarterly data collection
on observable indicators of state-building in 92 municipalities and USAID staff
in charge of overseeing the interventions in support of the Colombian
government’s “Consolidation” program.
