Public Economics

Public Economics is one of four core courses in the economics department. The research of our core faculty includes a wide range of topics on domestic expenditure programs, tax policy, and state and local public finance. Additional faculty members with public economics research interests currently work on topics in international tax policy and political economy. Collectively, our faculty members are one of the strongest and most active research groups in the area.

Ph.D. graduates of our program with public economics dissertations obtained positions at the Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, Abt Associates, Analysis Group, University of New Mexico, Virginia Commonwealth University and Louisiana State University.

International Economics (International Trade and Economic Development)

Our trade faculty is known for both empirical as well as theoretical research, serving as editors for the China Economic Review and Economics and Politics; publishing in major general journals like the American Economic Review and the Review of Economics and Statistics; and serving as research associates and faculty research fellows at the National Bureau of Economics Research.

Faculty interest spans trade and wages, foreign direct investment, trade and environment, and the political economy of trade policy. This breadth enables us to offer a two-course sequence in International Trade at the Ph.D. level, and numerous courses at the masters and undergraduate level.

Ph.D. graduates with dissertations in trade have obtained positions at the University of Melbourne, University of Cape Town, University of Alberta, U.S. Bureau of the Census, World Bank and the Central Bank of Kuwait.
