Mallory Hennigar, PhD Candidate from the Department of Religion at Syracuse University, will talk about the Nagaloka Center in Nagpur, Maharashtra, a global Britain-based Triratna Buddhist Community that offers Buddhist training to scheduled caste and tribe youths from across India. This talk explores the tensions Ambedkarite students feel between the “boundation” or restriction of participating in rigorous Buddhist training and the mobility they hope to gain through this training by putting it into conversation with the broader tension of turning to a British Buddhist movement for a solution to caste oppression in postcolonial India.
