International Studies Summer Institute - SAC

This year’s International Studies Summer Institute (ISSI) will highlight cultural sustainability. Cultural sustainability is the practice of managing change in a balanced and ethical fashion that preserves cultural beliefs, lifestyles, and livelihoods. Because culture crosses boundaries of discipline, this topic puts the arts, language, literature, and architecture in conversation with environmental and economic sustainability to address the significant challenges faced by diverse communities around the world. This workshop will:

• Present content grounded in specific world regions
• Share resources to support teachers in helping their students analyze the framework of cultural sustainability across the curriculum through the lens of area studies
• Appeal to elementary, middle, and high school teachers from a variety of disciplinary backgrounds

Registration will open on March 1 for all preservice teachers and teachers in select districts (Watkins Glen, Waverly, Spencer Van Etten, and Odessa Montour Districts). Registration will open for everyone on April 1.
