On Korea: Kim, Moon and Trump Confront the Washington Mainstream. What Can We Expect?

A Talk by Stephen Costello, Director, AsiaEast.Org  

North Korea’s leader appears to be trying to return to economic development and away from growing weapons capabilities. The South Korean and American presidents are trying hard to help him do that. In Washington, virtually every other actor aside from President Trump is against proposed diplomatic solutions. 

Stephen Costello has worked as political consultant, policy advisor, think tank analyst and writer on Korea issues for 28 years in Washington and Seoul. He was a consultant to Korean democratic leader Kim Dae-jung from 1990 to 1998, and managed the KDJ Peace Foundation DC office. He directed the Korea in Transition program at the Atlantic Council from 1999 to 2004. He now directs AsiaEast.Org, a policy initiative focused on security, development and politics in Northeast Asia. His opinion column appears in The Korea Times in Seoul.
