Three-Party Talks on Peace and Denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula

A Talk by K.A. ("Tony") Namkung, Visiting Scholar, Jackson School of International Studies, University of Washington 

President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un pledged during their historic meeting in Singapore to denuclearize the Korean peninsula. As Secretary of State Pompeo has acknowledged, there is still an "awful long way to go" in achieving this objective. Dr. Namkung will share his assessment of the state of play in this complex three-way diplomatic process. He also will outline a framework for establishing an enduring peace regime on the Korean peninsula. 

Dr. K.A. ("Tony") Namkung has worked for many years, often behind-the-scenes, to build bridges to the DPRK on behalf of individuals, organizations, and governments in the United States, ROK, and Japan. An American of Korean descent, Namkung was born in Shanghai, raised in Tokyo, and educated in American schools abroad. He is the recipient of major grants from the Rockefeller Foundation, the U.S. Department of Energy, and the MacArthur Foundation. He was also a Woodrow Wilson Fellow, Fulbright Fellow, and Danforth Foundation Fellow. He received his Ph.D. in Asian history from the University of California at Berkeley.
