LDF Alumni Conference in Cairo



On December 10 - 12 the Leaders for Democracy Fellows first annual Alumni conference will take place in Cairo Egypt. 17 of the 22 Fellows who attended the LDF program at the Maxwell School in 2007 will attend. Representing the Maxwell School and Syracuse University will be, William Sullivan, Director of Executive Education, Steven Lux, LDF project director and Mehrzad Boroujerdi, Professor of Political Science and Director of Maxwell's Middle East Studies Program.



Ambassador Frank Riccidorne will make opening remarks. Guest speakers from the region include: Dr. Soukeina Bourawi, Director of CAWTAR, the Center of Arab Women for Training and Research., Rola Dashti, a longtime women's campaigner in Kuwait who ran in 2006 parliamentary elections, Hisham Kassem, Egyptian Publisher, former manager of Egypt’s most independent paper, Al-Masri Al-Youm, 2007 recipient of NED Democracy award, Ramy Khouri, Palestinian Intellectual, SU Graduate, Director of AUB’s Issam Fares Institute for Public Policy and International Affairs, Hossam Bahgat, Director of the Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights (EIPR) and Ali Kassay, CEO of a communications consulting and marketing firm (ACE House) in Jordan.
