Assistant Director

virgilSusan Marie Virgil is the Assistant Director of the National Security Studies (NSS) Program at Syracuse University’s Maxwell School. She has been employed by Syracuse University for almost thirty years.  Sue is responsible for contractual, budgetary, and administrative oversight of various professional development courses on and off campus. In addition, she provides administrative support to the NSS Case Study Program and is the administrative liaison to the Office of Sponsored Programs at Syracuse University and marketer to the Training Representatives of those organizations that send participants to the various National Security Studies courses. 

Over the nineteen years she has been associated with the National Security Studies Program, as Program Administrator and now Assistant Director, she has managed the complex details of logistics, strategic planning, training design and program management for the various NSS courses that have been conducted.

Sue and FlutieHer skill set and deliverables that she applies to the program include speech writing, speech presentations, and logistical planning for the office.  She works closely with distinguished guest speakers, both practitioner and faculty, service representatives who support the program, and organizations associated with NSS.  She is responsible for maintaining the NSS Alumni network and is the focal point of contact for the NSS Board of Advisors.

Susan resides in Fabius, New York with her husband and she has two grown children, Josh and Tarah along with two grandchildren, Emma and Cody.
