Maxwell to Host 2024 Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders

Beginning in mid-June, the Maxwell School will host 25 of Africa’s bright, emerging public management leaders for a six-week Leadership Institute, sponsored by the U.S. Department of State.

Peer to Peer Forums Showcase Expertise, Global Perspectives

Eleven Executive Education students, fellows or scholars presented at Peer to Peer forums during this academic year. The sessions included a 15- to 20-minute presentation followed by a robust question-and-answer session. Presenters came from across Maxwell’s Executive Education programs, including the Humphrey Fellows cohort.

Humphrey Fellow Extends Philippine-Maxwell Alumni Connections

Niño Raymond Alvina, executive director for the Bureau of Local Government Finance for the Philippines’ Department of Finance, is the fourth Humphrey Fellow from the Philippines to study at the Maxwell School. And he continues a legacy of connections with Maxwell that intersected with his own career aspirations shortly after graduating from the University of Philippines in 2004.

Visiting Kazakhstan Scholars Expand Maxwell Ties with Central Asia

Next month, Aibek Kabyldin will be among the latest midcareer professionals from Kazakhstan to finish a one-year research and academic program through the school’s Visiting Executive Scholar (VES) partnership with that country. The program, which debuted about a year ago, links the Maxwell School with employees of the Academy of Public Administration (APA), under the president of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Midcareer Students from Mexico Converge on DC to Explore US Political Systems and Policymaking

The program, which ran Jan. 23-27, was titled “U.S. Government and Politics: Policy and Decision Making” and offered participants an overview of U.S. political institutions, elections and federal systems; and touched on some of the most fractious issues facing U.S. policymakers today, including guns, immigration and the role of media.

Syracuse University, jointly with Cybertrust America, NIST Global Community Technology Consortium (GCTC), US Ignite, and Global Cyber Alliance, has graduated its first cohort enrolled in the professional course aimed at equipping leaders in government, academia and the private sector with foundational knowledge and skills for successful smart city initiatives while expanding their professional network.

This was the eighth time Maxwell has hosted a Leadership Institute as a part of the Mandela Washington Fellowship. This year's six-week program included 700 young leaders from sub-Saharan Africa working with 27 institutions across the United States.
