Certificates of Advanced Study (CAS)
Executive Education offers several Certificates of Advanced Study options for mid-career professionals to pursue either as a stand-alone 12-credit alternative to EMPA or EMIR programs or concurrently with one of those Executive Master’s degrees.

CAS in Conflict Resolution

The Certificate of Advanced Study in Conflict Resolution is a 12-credit certificate that may be pursued by mid-career professionals looking to stay relevant in the realm of conflict resolution. More information can be found at PARCC, the Program for the Advancement of Research on Conflict and Collaboration (Maxwell School), which administers the CAS in Conflict Resolution.

CAS in E-Government

The Certificate of Advanced Study in E-Government Management and Leadership is a 12-credit degree that comprises part of the 30-credit EMPA or EMIR degree. This certificate is co-administered by the Maxwell and the iSchool. The student may select courses that focus on the technical context and technical design or courses that explore the variety of organizational design and management issues that are obviously associated with the e-government implementation.

CAS in Environmental Decision Making

EMPA and EMIR students have the opportunity to concurrently pursue the five-course, 15-credit Graduate Certificate in Environmental Decision Making. These 15 credits are earned concurrently within the 30-credit EMPA degree. The Certificate of Graduate Study in Environmental Decision Making is designed for graduate students enrolled in law, management, public administration, or information studies programs at Syracuse University. CAS in Leadership of International and Non-government Organizations

This Certificate of Advanced Study in Leadership of International and Non-government Organizations provides mid-career managers and policy makers with a documented concentration in Leadership of International and Non-Government Organizations. This 12-credit certificate may be pursued concurrently with either an EMIR or EMPA degree. This certificate reflects the increasing growth in the international public sector whereby international and non-government organizations are deeply involved in functions previously managed by national governments including service delivery, poverty reduction, conflict management, corruption prevention, and so on.

CAS in Post-Conflict Reconstruction

The Certificate of Advanced Study Program in Post-conflict Reconstruction (PCR) provides EMPA and EMIR students with a 12-credit documented concentration and familiarization with the major aspects of PCR, the various dimensions and goals of post-conflict work, the types of actors who conduct it, the trade-offs and dilemmas they face, and the lessons learned from its application across various settings. CAS in Public Administration

The Certificate of Advanced Study in Public Administration can be pursued concurrently by students enrolled in the EMIR program. It will complement the course work required of the EMIR degree. Most individuals taking the certificate state an interest in improving their management and leadership skills or an interest in developing concrete knowledge in a specific policy area. CAS in Public Infrastructure Management and Leadership

The Certificate of Advanced Study in Public Infrastructure Management and Leadership is geared toward mid-career professionals who are interested in building upon their body of experience and expanding his or her skills and knowledge in infrastructure planning, engineering, management and administration through relevant course work. The CAS-PIML is a 15-credit concurrent degree for EMPA or engineering students at the graduate level. The CAS-PIML is a 15-credit concurrent degree for EMPA or engineering students at the graduate level. This certificate is co-administered by the L.C. Smith College of Engineering and Computer Science and Maxwell’s Executive Education department.

CAS in Security Studies

The Certificate of Advanced Study in Security Studies recognizes graduate students who have sought to prepare themselves as professionals in the endlessly expanding fields of national security and counterterrorism. A 12-credit concurrent certificate recognizing this accomplishment is available to graduate students in EMPA and EMIR programs. This program is administered jointly by the Institute for National Security and Counterterrorism (Maxwell School & Law School) and Executive Education (Maxwell). CAS in Health Services Management and Policy

The 12-credit (four-course) Health Services Management and Policy Certificate is open to midcareer professionals who require a policy background to operate effectively in a dynamic health care sector. The Certificate is designed for two semesters of study whether as a standalone certificate or as part of a masters or PhD program. All courses may be applied to the EMPA degree program.
