Biography
My educational background: B.S. in
Geography (focus in GIS & Remote Sensing), B.S. in Environmental Science,
and minor in Chemistry from SUNY Oneonta. Brief Bio: I am from Kingston, NY the
original capital of NYS. At my undergraduate institution I fell in love with
Geography and Environmental Science, due to their interdisciplinary nature.
There I gained experience through a variety courses such as Airborne Remote
Sensing (UAVs), Mapping in the Geosciences, Atmospheric Remote Sensing,
Disaster Geography, etc. I gained a unique perspective through my experience
with Disaster Geography by visiting New Orleans, LA; we learned the physical
processes of destruction and recovery, as well as, the social aspects. An
independent study on the Urban Heat Island Effect in New Orleans, LA (pre-
& post- Hurricane Katrina) helped to shape some of my current research
interests. Research Interests: I am interested in using geospatial and remote
sensing tools and techniques to learn more about the world around us.
Specifically, I am interested mitigation of the Urban Heat Island Effect, its
impacts on inland vs coastal urban areas, impacts in flood vs. Non-flood
conditions, and at varying altitudes and latitudes. Another research interest
of mine is in impacts due to the disruption of the thermohaline circulation of
the world's oceans. What local impacts may be, and those more abroad are
intriguing.
