Center for Engaged Scholarship - Dissertation Fellowship
Center for Engaged Scholarship fellowships are for PhD students in the social sciences whose work is of high quality and that has the potential to contribute to making US society less unequal, more democratic, and more environmentally sustainable. Students enrolled in a US PhD program in the following areas of study may apply: anthropology, economics, geography, history, political science, social psychology, and sociology.
American Educational Research Association (AERA) - Minority Dissertation Fellowship Program
The American Educational Research Association (AERA) is pleased to announce the AERA Minority Dissertation Fellowship in Education Research. The Council of the AERA established the fellowship program to provide support for doctoral dissertation research, to advance education research by outstanding minority graduate students, and to improve the quality and diversity of university faculties. This program offers doctoral fellowships to enhance the competitiveness of outstanding minority scholars for academic appointments at major research universities. It supports fellows conducting education research and provides mentoring and guidance toward the completion of their doctoral studies.
Social Science Research Council (SSRC) - International Dissertation Research Fellowship (IDRF) Program
The program invites proposals for dissertation research conducted, in whole or in part, outside the United States, on non-US topics. It will consider applications for dissertation research grounded in a single site, informed by broader cross-regional and interdisciplinary perspectives, as well as applications for multi-sited, comparative, and transregional research. Proposals that identify the United States as a case for comparative inquiry are welcome; however, proposals that focus predominantly or exclusively on the United States are not eligible.
School for Advanced Research (SAR) - Resident Scholar Fellowships - Weatherhead Fellowships
Two nine-month residential fellowships are available for scholars working in the humanities or social sciences. Scholars with doctorates who plan to write their books and PhD candidates who plan to write their dissertations are eligible. This fellowship is made possible through the generous support of the Weatherhead Foundation.
National Science Foundation (NSF) - Science, Technology, and Society (STS) - Doctoral Dissertation Research Improvement Grants (DDRI)
STS is an interdisciplinary field that investigates topics relating to the scientific, technological, engineering and mathematical (STEM) disciplines, including medical science. STS research uses historical, philosophical, and social scientific methods to investigate STEM theory and practice with regards to history and socio-cultural formation, philosophical underpinnings, and impacts of science and technology on quality of life, culture, and society.
Herzog August Bibliothek - Doctoral and Young Scholars Fellowships
Thanks to the initiatives by private foundations (Dr. Günther Findel-Stiftung/Rolf und Ursula Schneider-Stiftung) fellowships programmes for doctoral candidates have been established at the Herzog August Bibliothek. These programmes are open to applicants from Germany and abroad and from all disciplines. Candidates who already hold scholarships (eg. state or college awards or grants from Graduiertenkollegs) or can apply for a rent subsidy to help finance their stay in Wolfenbüttel.
Association of American Geographers - Dissertation Research Grants
The American Association of Geographers (AAG) provides support for doctoral dissertation research in the form of small grants to PhD candidates of any geographic specialty. The fund supports doctoral dissertation research in geography.
American Association of University Women (AAUW) - American Dissertation Fellowship
Dissertation Fellowships offset a scholar’s living expenses while she completes her dissertation. The fellowship must be used for the final year of writing the dissertation. Applicants must have completed all course work, passed all preliminary examinations, and received approval for their research proposals or plans by the preceding November. Students holding fellowships for writing a dissertation in the year prior to the American Association of University Women (AAUW) fellowships year are not eligible. Open to applicants in all fields of study. Scholars engaged in science, technology, engineering, and math fields or researching gender issues are especially encouraged to apply.
University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee - American Geographical Society Library (AGS Library) - American Geographical Society Library Research Fellowships
This is a one-time, short-term fellowship intended to support individuals whose research would benefit from extensive use of the AGS Library and who wish to communicate their geographical research results to a broad,educated general audience. Examples of supported research include area studies, discovery and exploration, history of cartography, history of geographical thought, historical geography and geographical themes with a significant historical component, and any topic that would have policy, business or similar applications.
Johns Hopkins University - American Institute for Contemporary German Studies - DAAD/AICGS Research Fellowship
The DAAD/AICGS Research Fellowship Program, funded by a generous grant from the Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD), is designed to bring both senior and junior scholars and specialists working on key issues of central importance to the German-American relationship to American Institute for Contemporary German Studies (AICGS) for research stays of two to three consecutive months each.
