American Association of University Women (AAUW) - American Postdoctoral Research Leave Fellowships
The primary purpose of the Postdoctoral Research Leave Fellowship is to increase the number of women in tenure-track faculty positions and to promote equality for women in higher education. This fellowship is designed to assist the candidate in obtaining tenure and further promotions by enabling her to spend a year pursuing independent research. Preference will be given to projects that are not simply a revision of the doctoral dissertation.
American Association of University Women (AAUW) - AAUW American Fellowships Summer/Short-Term Research Publication Grants
Summer/Short-Term Research Publication Grants provide support to scholars to prepare research manuscripts for publication and to independent researchers to prepare research for publication. Preference will be given to applicants whose work supports the vision of AAUW: to break through educational and economic barriers so that all women have a fair chance.
American Association of University Women (AAUW) - American Dissertation Fellowship
Dissertation Fellowships offset a scholar’s living expenses while she completes her dissertation. The fellowship must be used for the final year of writing the dissertation. Applicants must have completed all course work, passed all preliminary examinations, and received approval for their research proposals or plans by the preceding November. Students holding fellowships for writing a dissertation in the year prior to the American Association of University Women (AAUW) fellowships year are not eligible. Open to applicants in all fields of study. Scholars engaged in science, technology, engineering, and math fields or researching gender issues are especially encouraged to apply.
University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee - American Geographical Society Library (AGS Library) - American Geographical Society Library Research Fellowships
This is a one-time, short-term fellowship intended to support individuals whose research would benefit from extensive use of the AGS Library and who wish to communicate their geographical research results to a broad,educated general audience. Examples of supported research include area studies, discovery and exploration, history of cartography, history of geographical thought, historical geography and geographical themes with a significant historical component, and any topic that would have policy, business or similar applications.
American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) - Science and Technology Policy Fellowships
AAAS Science & Technology Policy Fellowships (STPF) provide opportunities to outstanding scientists and engineers to learn first-hand about policymaking while contributing their knowledge and analytical skills to the federal policymaking process. Fellows serve yearlong assignments in the executive, legislative, and judicial branches of the federal government in Washington.
Alexander von Humboldt Foundation - Research Fellowships
This fellowship enables highly-qualified scientists and scholars from abroad who are just embarking on their academic careers and who completed their doctorates less than four years ago to spend extended periods of research (6-24 months) in Germany.
Johns Hopkins University - American Institute for Contemporary German Studies - DAAD/AICGS Research Fellowship
The DAAD/AICGS Research Fellowship Program, funded by a generous grant from the Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD), is designed to bring both senior and junior scholars and specialists working on key issues of central importance to the German-American relationship to American Institute for Contemporary German Studies (AICGS) for research stays of two to three consecutive months each.
National Science Foundation (NSF) - International Research Experiences for Students (IRES)
The International Research Experiences for Students (IRES) program supports international research and research-related activities for U.S. science and engineering students. The IRES program contributes to development of a diverse, globally-engaged workforce with world-class skills. IRES focuses on active research participation by undergraduate or graduate students in high quality international research, education and professional development experiences in NSF-funded research areas.
Royal Geographical Society - Thesiger-Oman International Fellowship
The Thesiger-Oman International Fellowship offers awards for geographical research in the physical or human dimensions of arid and semi arid environments. The Fellowships fund post-doctoral researchers with an outstanding research proposal, that involves fieldwork in an arid environment. Research within the Middle East and other areas visited by Thesiger, will be given priority.
The Arthur Vining Davis Foundations - Private Higher Education Grants
Support for private colleges and universities is grounded in Arthur Vining Davis’ conviction that “an educated society strengthens democracy through principled, thoughtful and compassionate leadership.” The Foundations’ philanthropy to private higher education concentrates on private colleges and universities with a primary academic mission in the liberal arts and sciences, rather than career or vocational studies. These institutions should exemplify academic quality and financial stability.
