International Relations Minors

The International Relations Program offers two minors, Global Political Economy and Global Security Studies, that are open to students from across the College of Arts and Sciences and all other Schools in the University.

The GPE and GSS minors enrich a student’s major course of study by providing additional opportunities to study global affairs and the dynamics of international economic, political, and military systems.

Our current minors are drawn from across the University, and include students from the Newhouse School, Whitman School of Management, Falk College, and the College of Arts & Sciences, in addition to almost every program within the Maxwell School.

Global Political Economy

The Global Political Economy (GPE) minor focuses on all aspects of globalization and international economics in the contemporary world.

Global Security Studies

The Global Security Studies (GSS) minor focuses on the global and international dimensions of security, war, conflict, and conflict resolution in the contemporary world.

Many of our minors choose to further enhance their understanding of global issues by studying abroad or participating in the Maxwell in Washington semester. Minors are also encouraged to join the IR Club and to participate in our Program’s many activities and events.

For more information about either minor, please email our minors coordinator Dr. Terrie Northrup or schedule an advising appointment.
