The Goodwin Cooke Award for Leadership in International Relations 2013:

Jennifer Lee Nieves-Alvarez and Ivan Andreevich Bakin

Jennifer-Lee Nieves Alvarez & Ivan Bakin 2013 

This year’s recipients are Jennifer-Lee Nieves Álvarez and Ivan Andreevich Bakin.  Both were members of the International Relations Learning Community in their first year at Syracuse, and both participated in the Renée Crown University Honors Program.  Both have served as Executive Officers of our Sigma Iota Rho honor society and as Head Delegates for our Syracuse University-Maxwell School Model United Nations delegation. Jennifer-Lee combined her major in International Relations with a major in French Language & Literature and a minor in Global Political Economy.  She studied a full year in Strasbourg, France, and interned at the Council of Europe. Ivan has focused on Africa, also majored in Middle Eastern Studies and minored in African American Studies, is fluent in Arabic, studied abroad in Istanbul, Turkey, and is Vice President of the International Relations Club as well as a Remembrance Scholar.
