Mar Aguilar

Director of the Population Council’s International Support Unit
Mar Aguilar is director of the Population Council’s International Support Unit, which oversees the operations of the Council's international offices. Aguilar and her staff provide administrative and management guidance, communicate local needs and concerns to senior management, and propose solutions, promote uniform office systems, and ensure that Council global policies and procedures are appropriately adapted and applied to the local context. Aguilar has been with the Council since 1990, when she joined the regional office for Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) in Mexico City. In 1998, she became budget manager of the Council’s International Programs Division in New York City. After leaving in 2002 to complete her master’s degree, Aguilar worked for Habitat for Humanity Mexico as director of finance for the Jimmy Carter Project, which built 150 houses in Puebla and Veracruz in 2004. Aguilar returned to the Council in 2005 as financial manager for International Programs and was appointed director of International Support in 2009. She is a member of InsideNGO and is on the board of directors of Solutions for Innovative Policies, Programs and Technologies, NPC, a national NGO the Council helped establish in Johannesburg, South Africa. Aguilar has a Master’s degree in Administration from the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México.
