MAXWELL RECEIVES A SECOND GRANT FROM THE MEPI PROGRAM
This past year, the State Department’s Middle East Program Initiative provided Syracuse University’s Maxwell School an opportunity to compete for a new type of grant related to the Leaders for De- mocracy Fellows program, but with a different target audience. The award was solidified in March, and, starting in January 2009, the School will host faculty members from Middle Eastern and North African universities to participate in a program called the Civic Education Leaders Fellows. Eligible candidates will come from social science disciplines, as well as public communications and law. The intended purpose is to assist these educators, who will spend one to two semesters on campus, and their home institutions improve their course curriculums and pedagogy. As part of the program, they will participate in two specially designed seminars and each participant will team up with at least one faculty member as their principal mentor in their curriculum development process. We look forward to implementing the project!
