An End to Silence, Part 1: Paradise is Under Your Mother's Foot.
Year Released: 1994
"Paradise is Under Your Mother's Foot." The prophet Mohammed is supposed to have said this -- and yet in the majority of Muslim countries, women are still oppressed by law. Are these laws of oppression really contained in the Koran and Hadith or are they merely male interpretations or regional customs which have subsequently become as influential as the Koran and Hadith? In order to answer these questions, a network of women's groups, "Women Living Under Muslim Laws" was set up on an international scale in 1984. The headquarters of the WLUML is in Lahore, Pakistan. Here, the women are working together on a major project: they are collecting practical examples of how the so-called Muslim laws are applied in different countries -- examining, comparing and interpreting them. In the process, they have discovered that the Sharia is applied in very different ways in the various Islamic countries. ID:SA91
