Binoy to Discuss We Are Living and Fighting a Toxic Commons
On Tuesday, March 7th, the South Asia Center is pleased to host Parvathy Binoy to discuss We Are Living in a Toxic Commons. Parvathy Binoy is a PhD Candidate in the Department of Geography at Syracuse University. The lecture will take place in 341 Eggers Hall at 12:30PM.
Binoy’s presentation will illuminate vignettes of the social reproduction of gendered experiences of living and fighting a toxic commons in Kathikudam. Kathikudam is a riparian village in the South Indian state of Kerala which has been home to a transnational company, Nitta Gelatin Inc. For more than a decade, women subsistence farmers in the region have been protesting and organizing against the operations of this corporation.
