Colm O'Cuanachain, Senior Director of Campaigns, Amnesty International
Presentation: The Complexity of Leadership in an International Human Rights NGO
Tuesday, March 9, 2010
341 Eggers Hall
Leadership in multi-site and multi-governed organizations like Amnesty International is challenging! Internal democracy, decision-making, and management processes can make it difficult to balance the internal systems with the compelling external human rights demands. Amnesty International's democratic membership base underpins a particular leadership dynamic where change management requires resource intensive internal processes. Leadership must be balanced and effective to avoid internal conflict or high transaction costs. Colm provides strategic direction and overall management for Amnesty International's campaigning and activism activities as a member of the Senior Management Team at the organization's International Secretariat. His role includes oversight of global campaigns.
