The latest cohort of graduates will receive degrees during the June 29 ceremony.

The University Professor and Phanstiel Chair in Leadership was recognized for his public service roles, including four presidential appointments. 

Audie Klotz, professor of political science, is the 2023 recipient of the William Wasserstrom Prize for Teaching of Graduate Students. The prize is awarded to a faculty member who exemplifies the qualities of William Wasserstrom, a noted professor of English at Syracuse, who died in 1985.

Professors Jane Burrell, Lynn Brann and Bryce Hruska were honored with Falk College Faculty of the Year awards for their outstanding teaching, scholarship, and internal and professional service contributions in 2023.

Bernard Rostker G’66, G’70 was one of four alumni honored at the Washington, D.C., event emceed by CNN anchor Boris Sanchez '09.

The award recognizes excellence in teaching and contributions to the IR program during the 2022-2023 academic year.

Alumna Donna E. Shalala G’70, H’87 will deliver remarks at the University’s 2023 Commencement.

“The Remembrance Scholars represent the future while honoring the past, which is both a great privilege and a great responsibility,” says Vice Chancellor and Provost Gretchen Ritter. “This year’s students, who have demonstrated strong leadership skills and a commitment to service, are up to the task. As with those who were tragically lost nearly 35 years ago, we are proud that these students are members of our University community.”

The honor is presented to faculty members who have a significant, positive influence on graduate education through their commitment to superior graduate teaching, dedication to departmental and community presence and work in research initiatives.

Syracuse University’s Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs is ranked #1 overall in a survey of its peers and is highly ranked in ten subspecialties, according to the 2024 U.S. News & World Report Best Public Affairs School rankings. The school has received the top honor in 12 of the 13 years in which the peer surveys have been conducted; this year, the honor is shared with Indiana University’s O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs.

The One University Awards Ceremony, an annual event to honor members of the Syracuse University community who are making a difference through academics, scholarship, creative work and dedicated service, will be held Friday, April 21.

The political science and international relations major hopes to bring ‘meaningful news to readers across the world.’ 

The assistant professor of economics will give remarks at the Maxwell School’s Graduate Convocation on May 12.

After being named a 2023 Falk College Scholar and Syracuse University Scholar, public health major Kiersten Edwards will continue to honor her late brother by embarking on a career that will help people “who are forgotten.”

The Student Experience Division announced the selection of Lucio Maffei, a junior majoring in political philosophy as a Class of 2024 Senior Class Marshal. He will spend his senior year serving as one of the all-University representatives for his class and conclude his experience by leading the student procession during the 2024 Commencement ceremony.

Chelsea Brown (citizenship and civic engagement), Dara Drake (policy studies), Maggie Sardino (citizenship and civic engagement) and Alesandra "Sasha" Temerte (economics) were among those named 2023 Syracuse University Scholars, the highest undergraduate honor the University bestows.

Alumni Bernard Rostker G’66, G’70, Sean Callahan G’98, L’98, Deniece Laurent-Mantey ’09 and Juan Carlos Izaguirre G’06, G’07 will be celebrated at the event on April 27 in Washington, D.C.
