The Center for Migration Studies presented Winders, professor of geography and the environment and associate provost for faculty affairs, with the award at its annual gala.

The students received a Distinguished Delegates award while representing the Russian Federation.

The American Historical Association has awarded Tessa Murphy, associate professor of history, the James A. Rawley Prize in Atlantic History. The award was created in 1998 and is offered annually to recognize outstanding historical writing that explores aspects of integration of Atlantic worlds before the 20th century. 

The scholarship, funded by the Obama Foundation, provides $25,000 a year for two years toward education expenses, $10,000 for research/service travel between junior and senior year (Summer Voyage), $20,000 in travel funding for the next 10 years, and leadership training.

Colleagues and alumni came together recently to mark the 45th anniversary of the undergraduate program and its founder, Professor Bill Coplin.

Johannes Himmelreich, assistant professor of public administration and international affairs, received the award for outstanding teaching in the Public Administration and International Affairs (PAIA) Department.

"Discrimination and Delegation: Explaining State Responses to Refugees," written by Associate Professor of Political Science Lamis Abdelaaty, received the Best Book Award by APSA's Migration and Citizenship section.

Daniel McDowell, associate professor of political science, was selected to be a member of the 2022-23 Wilson China Fellowship class, a China-focused non-residential fellowship supporting the next generation of American scholarship on China.

Andrew Gasparini and Melissa Alvisi have just joined the ranks of incoming graduate students at the Maxwell School, pursing dual master’s degrees in public administration and international relations. 

"Artificial Intelligence and Administrative Evil," co-authored by Assistant Professor of Public Administration and International Affairs Johannes Himmelreich, was awarded the Camilla Stivers Best Article Award by the Public Management Research Association. 

“Both Sides of the Paycheck: Recommending Thrift to the Poor in Job Readiness Programs," co-authored by Associate Professor of Sociology Gretchen Purser and Brian Hennigan '13 M.A. (Geog)/'21 Ph.D. (Geog), was awarded the John Russo & Sherry Linkon Award for Published Article or Essay for Academic or General Audiences by the Working-Class Studies Association.

Ralph Hockley ’49 was honored with the Legion of Honor, France’s highest civilian accolade.

Christopher Beardsley, an M.P.A./M.A. (IR) student, has been named a 2022 Boren Fellow. Boren Awards fund students to study critical languages through immersive experiences abroad. Applicants must articulate a commitment to public service and national security.

A bachelor’s degree from the Maxwell School and the College of Arts and Sciences helped prepare famed broadcaster Mike Tirico to take on one of the toughest assignments of his storied career: the 2022 Winter Olympics in Bejing, China.

Seven Maxwell students and alumni have been named as 2022 recipients of awards through the Fulbright U.S. Student Program. The program funds a range of awards that include English teaching assistantships (ETA) and study/research grants in over 140 countries.

Syracuse University’s Remembrance Scholar Selection Committee has chosen the 35 students who will be the 2022-23 Remembrance Scholars.
