Prema Kurien was named director of the center as it received funding from the U.S. Department of Education.

Margaret Talev will be based in Washington, D.C., and report to Mark J. Lodato, dean of the Newhouse School. She will assume the position in January.

Peter Wilcoxen, Ajello Professor in Energy and Environmental Policy, is one of twenty members and one government observer who have been named as part of the establishment of the committee. The new committee will provide information and analysis to the Financial Stability Oversight Council.

The Maxwell School is pleased to announce three new O’Hanley Faculty Scholars: Margarita Estévez-Abe, Scott Landes and Emily Wiemers.

Alexandra Punch has taken the helm as director of the renamed Lerner Center for Public Health Promotion and Population Health. Her appointment in July coincided with the addition of “population health” to the center’s title. 

The Hicker Family Professorship in Renewing Democratic Community has been established with a generous gift by Orange alumnus George Hicker ’68 and his wife, Kathy. Chris Faricy, associate professor of political science, has been selected to hold a new professorship.

The Maxwell School welcomes several new faculty members and announces the appointment of three department chairs.

Taylor succeeds Margaret “Peg” Hermann, professor of political science and Gerald B. and Daphna Cramer Professor of Global Affairs, who has led the center since it was the Global Affairs Institute.

Alan Allport, professor of history, has been named the Dr. Walter Montgomery and Marian Gruber Professor of History at the Maxwell School.

Azra Hromadžić, associate professor of anthropology, was recently awarded the Dr. Ralph E. Montonna Endowed Professorship for the Teaching and Education of Undergraduates. She will hold the professorship for the 2022-23 academic year. 

Professor of Sociology Andrew London was elected chair (one-year term begins in 2022) of the American Sociological Association’s Drugs and Society Section.

A demographer and sociologist whose work focuses on population health will serve as the next director of the Center for Policy Research (CPR), the oldest interdisciplinary social science research program at the Maxwell School. Shannon Monnat, Lerner Chair for Public Health Promotion and professor of sociology, will begin the position on July 1, 2022. 

Maxwell School faculty member Leonard Lopoo is one of 13 scholars from across the country who have been selected to serve on a prestigious National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine panel that will explore behavioral economics.

Provost Gretchen Ritter announced that Gretchen W. Purser, associate professor of sociology in the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs, has been appointed co-director of the Lender Center for Social Justice.

Using his degrees in political science and broadcast journalism, Jared Kraham '13 rises to become Binghamton’s youngest mayor.

Saba Siddiki has been named the Chapple Family Professor of Citizenship and Democracy at the Maxwell School. She is the fourth faculty member to hold the professorship, created in 2006 with a gift from alumnus and Maxwell School Advisory Board member John H. Chapple ’75 B.A. (PSc)/’11 Hon.
