Prepare for crises, speakers tell Humphrey Fellows

The global pandemic kept Humphrey Fellows from gathering at Syracuse University for an annual workshop on crisis management. But a virtual program taught lessons relevant to the ongoing public health crisis as well as strategies to prepare for future crises.

Maxwell Students Named Class of 2022 Senior Class Marshals

A longstanding tradition honoring two exemplar seniors, the Division of Enrollment and the Student Experience announces the selection of Ava Breitbeck, a political science major, and Morgan Storino, a citizenship and civic engagement major, as the Class of 2022 Senior Class Marshals. In this role, Breitbeck and Storino serve as the all-University representatives for their graduating class and will lead Syracuse University’s 168th Commencement ceremony.

Maxwell Humphrey Fellows visit the LaunchPad to talk global innovation

Nine Hubert H. Humphrey Fellows from Brazil, Guatemala, Mexico, Montenegro, Nepal, Papua New Guinea, South Africa, Tanzania and Togo visited with the LaunchPad team recently as part of a cross cultural exchange program. The Fellows, who are being hosted by the Maxwell School, are young and midcareer professionals from the public, private and NGO sectors who bring rich experience in public policy, public health, public finance, economic development, workforce and youth development, technology, volunteerism and community building, as well as other areas.

Ajello Fellows create open data repository of electric grid in Vietnam

In many ways, Nguyen Phan Bao Linh and Yu En Hsu seem like opposite sides of the same coin: both are international students enrolled in Maxwell’s #1 ranked M.P.A. program, both are among the first to pursue the program’s new certificate in Data Analytics for Public Policy, and—when the pandemic hit the U.S. last spring—both reached out to their favorite professor for help navigating the uncertainties of finishing the program.

Executive Education event outlines lessons of COVID-19 disruption

There will be a—quote unquote—new normal," says Catherine Gerard, associate director of Executive Education, about the short- and long-term effects of the novel coronavirus pandemic. “This has been an incredible disruption,” University Professor Sean O’Keefe said. “This disruptive change is having a global consequence.”

Army National Guard member builds experience through DCP

Major Nwankwoala, a member of the National Guard ,is attending the Defense Comptrollership Program (DCP), a joint program between the Whitman School and the Maxwell School at Syracuse University and the Department of Defense. It encompasses 60-credit hours over 14 months. Graduates earn both a master of business (MBA) degree and an executive master of public administration (EMPA) degree.

Peace Corps, Fulbright evacuees find community, opportunity at Maxwell

on a Monday morning in mid-March, Jeremy Gonzalez opened his email and learned he was being immediately evacuated from his Peace Corps post in West Timor, Indonesia. Although the COVID-19 pandemic had already prompted travel restrictions around the world, his evacuation orders were sudden and frantic.

Exec Ed alum links Syracuse’s disability rights work with Uzbekistan

“I am truly impressed by how the academic and research environment for persons with disabilities is advanced and promising for replication in Uzbekistan,” said Mirjakhon Turdiev, a current social science Ph.D. candidate. “A rights-based approach to persons with disabilities and disability understanding in general is something I planned to export to Uzbekistan.”
