The plan, known as the American Family Act, would revise and expand the existing Child Tax Credit to provide most parents, including low-income ones, at least $3,000 every year. Faricy says that tax-based benefits are typically more popular than other cash assistance programs. “Generally, people find workers and taxpayers to be deserving of government benefits,” he says. 01/31/19
