Indian ambassador to EU
to lecture on multilateralism

Puri, Indian ambassador to the European Union, will give a public lecture this
Thursday, October 15, titled “In Defense of Multilateralism.” His talk is
sponsored by the Moynihan Institute of Global Affairs.
Prior to
his position at the EU, Puri was India’s ambassador to the United Nations. He has
been actively involved with issues of sustainable development and the
environment. He was a lead negotiator in India's delegation for the UN
Conference on Sustainable Development held in Rio de Janeiro. He was also a key
member of India's delegation at various Climate Change negotiations, including
the Major Economies Forum and the Conference of Parties of the UNFCCC in
Copenhagen. Between 2005 and 2009 Ambassador Puri headed the United Nations
Division in the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi, dealing with
economic and social issues. He has been a member of the Indian foreign service
since 1982.
The
lecture will be held at 4 p.m. in the Dr. Paul and Natalie Strasser Legacy
Room, 220 Eggers Hall. It is free and open to the public. Parking will be
available at Irving Garage and the Sheraton; both are walking distance from the
event.
